2nd Stage Navigator

Since zbrush is a program I have been needing to learn, I decided to have a crack at sculpting the 2nd Stage Navigator head... still learning though... have to try and create a texture for it. SO here is a look at what I've come up with so far... added the eye and "spice gas" very quickly in photoshop just to give an idea of how it will look...

  1. Just a thematic choice, but I imagine flat molars would work better than the sharp ones you're using and as originally planned.

As they look now, the mutated Navigator will just look like a monster. Human-like teeth at odd positions with many missing would serve as a reminder that it was a human, as well as visually represent loss of humanity through mutation.

  2. Hmmm... was just trying to replicate the original sculpture that was made for the film... but there is only one reference photo and the mouth area is not shown clearly... teeth look like spikes... but yes, I think you might be right... will have to give it a try and see how it looks... someone else said it reminded them of the "salt monster" from the original Star Trek show.

  4. Yes, it does look a bit like the Salt Monster. It's mostly the puckered-mouth, but also the squinty eyes to some degree.

You are working to bring the old vision to life, but at the same time "update" it for a modern audience. Some minor aesthetic touch-ups isn't a bad thing, especially if it improves the feeling meant to be invoked.

  5. The nostrils on the original sculpt by Christopher Tucker are lower down towards the mouth than on your sculpt, otherwise really cool work on this !!!
